Wildomar Council Finally Gets To Act Officially
On Tuesday night, Wildomar residents celebrated cityhood with fireworks, free hot dogs and soda, and a teary tribute to three Wildomar Marines who died in Iraq.
Then the five elected City Council members were sworn in, officially beginning their service.

Wildomar Becomes Official City Today, Amid Uncertain Times
When Wildomar residents wake up today they will stop being county residents and become city folk.
As residents and officials celebrate the incorporation, a cloud of financial caution hangs in the air. The housing market collapse and a slowdown in the overall economy have critics concerned about the future of the 24-square-mile city and officials anxiously awaiting a city budget.

Experts Give Advice To Keep Pets Safe On Fourth Of July
For Caltrans maintenance crews, July 5 is one of the worst days of the year. Panicked pets that got loose on the Fourth, somehow found their way to local roadways and were hit by cars must be removed. It is a job they dread.
"It also puts our employees at risk," said Caltrans spokesperson Terri Kasinga.

Cowboy Jubilee Celebrates Ranching On Santa Rosa Plateau
Lynn Mattocks was reminiscing about the old days when the cowboy way of life and large-scale cattle ranching dominated the Santa Rosa Plateau.
"I used to gather cattle up here for Louis Roripaugh before there ever was a house up here," said Mattocks, 73, of Menifee, from his perch atop his horse, Clyde. "I was also around during the last cattle run out of Redhawk (in Temecula) in the late 1980s."

Man Charged With Soliciting Hit Enters Plea In French Valley
A Santa Ana man was charged Tuesday with hiring an undercover agent posing as a hit man to kill a woman and paying him with methamphetamine.
Paul David Lenaburg, 57, was in a wheelchair during his arraignment at the Southwest Justice Center in French Valley, where a not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf.

After Inquiry, Grand Jury Tells Lake Elsinore Animal Shelter To Make Upgrades
A grand jury investigation recommends a Lake Elsinore nonprofit group upgrade its animal shelter, where dozens of animals died in a fire in February.
The organization, Animal Friends of the Valleys, provides animal-control services to several southwestern Riverside County cities.
John Todd, grand jury foreman, said the investigation began in March but he declined to say what prompted the inquiry.

Lake Elsinore Boys & Girls Club Receives Royal Visitor
A group of children at the Lake Elsinore Boys & Girls Club got a chance Thursday to meet international royalty.
Johnson Agwu, a village king in Nigeria, visited the club as part of an international delegation of Rotary Club members, which also included the wife of Uganda's vice president, Gilbert Bukenya.

Skateboarders Catch Air At Reopened Park In Murrieta
The riders at reopened Murrieta Skate Park griped about elbow pads. They threatened to leave. Still they rode.
On Tuesday, the skate park opened after being closed for a month to provide more safety and supervision.

Teen's Fire Engine To Appear At Murrieta Car Show
Hundreds of vehicles are entered in a pair of shows in Murrieta over Father's Day weekend, but few are as unusual as Kyle Thompson's fire engine.
Kyle, 16, of Murrieta, is entering the vehicle, a 1973 Sanford fire engine, in the second annual Super Street Teen Car Show from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the California Oaks Sports Park in Murrieta.

Merchant Marines Group Keeps Memories Alive
Each month, the Old Salts come from as far away as San Bernardino and San Diego counties to meet at Boston Billies restaurant in Sun City. They're all former Merchant Marines who served aboard commercial vessels carrying everything from fuel and food to troops and ammunition during World War II.
"Without us there wouldn't have been a war," said club Commandant Ray Gallagher, 85.

Lake Elsinore Considering Stopping City-issued Credit Cards; Most Inland-area Cities Don't Use Them
One Inland city may leave the ranks of those that allow council members access to city-issued credit cards.
Lake Elsinore is looking into stopping the practice, after Councilman Robert Magee called on the city to adopt a reimbursement policy more in line with other area agencies.

Lake Elsinore Woman And Child Missing Since Sunday
A 30-year-old Lake Elsinore woman and her 3-year-old son have been missing since Sunday and investigators are asking for help from the public in locating them.
Marylou Mohr and her son, Harley Mohr, were supposed to be on their way Sunday to the Lake Forest church where Mohr's father-in-law is a pastor, but they never arrived, said Riverside County Sheriff's Department Investigator Jason Trudeau.
